EvaluationKit (Course Evaluations & Surveys )
What is Course Evaluations & Surveys
As of 2/1/22, EvaluationKit has been renamed. Course Evaluations & Surveys is a tool designed to assist in managing course evaluations online through Canvas. The student responses are kept anonymous and all data is collected for reporting to department administrators and instructors.
Evaluations by Students
This semester, students will use Course Evaluations & Surveys to review all classes, which is required in our contract.
For those classes not scheduled for formal evaluation, the student component will only be available to the individual instructors for their own edification - nobody else will be able to see it. For those scheduled for formal evaluation, the student component obtained via Course Evaluations & Surveys will be tabulated and included in the formal evaluation report as usual.
There are three primary roles in Course Evaluations & Surveys:
- Administrators: Administrators choose what to ask, who to ask, and who should have access to the results.
- Instructors: Instructors will be notified when an evaluation period is active. Instructors have the ability to see the response rate for their courses and can also review prior evaluations (see instructions below)
- Students: Students will see Course Evaluations & Surveys in their class menu when an evaluation period is active. Students reply to the evaluation and their answers are used to create the results for the evaluation. All student answers are kept anonymous.
Best Practices with Course Evaluations & Surveys
Once the evaluation is live for students, it's a good idea to do a few things:
- Send a friendly reminder to students to let them know it's important and that you use the responses.
- Check your Navigation in your Canvas course Settings to make sure you didn't disable EvaluationKit Course
Enabling EvaluationKit Course allows the evaluation link to show up in Canvas for students. They'll still get reminders without these links, but it will be easier with the link. Note: Students don't see the link until the evaluation is live. Students are told that results are anonymous and teachers will not see the results until after grades are submitted.
