I communicate additional *and super useful* information via announcements and submission comments, so you'll want to have your Canvas set to send these to you!
How?
You can update your Canvas Settings TWO ways:
1. Click on your profile pic and then Notifications:
Be sure to set "announcements" and "submission comments" to immediately.
2. Click on the course and then click on View Course Notifications:
Be sure to set "announcements" and "submission comments" to immediately.

Update your Preferred Name
What?
Change your preferred name in MySDCCD, if you go by something other than your default name in Canvas.
Why?
Makes it easier for me to grade your Desmos activities if you use the same name everywhere. And honestly, if a place lets you choose what you want to be called - take advantage! Eventually you may end up at a company that forces you to use your legal name as your email address.
How?

Update your Canvas Profile Picture
What?
Update your profile picture.
Why?
Grading online work is the pits. Seeing a cute photo next to your name makes that less of a slog. And it helps me connect with you!
How?
In Canvas, click on the account button on the left side menu.
Then you'll be able to choose profile and click on the person icon to add an image - it doesn't have to be a picture of you, but something other than the default Canvas image!
Since we will have conversations with each other on the discussion boards and Pronto, and most of us default to referring to people by gendered pronouns, including pronouns avoids any assumptions and unwittingly offending another student. It also signals our acceptance of others and respect for their gender identity. If you don't feel comfortable assigning pronouns to yourself / the pronouns that you would use are not available in Canvas / have any other qualm with this suggestion, don't do it.
How?
In Canvas, click on the account button on the left side menu.
In the account area that we're in, you'll click on settings and then choose "Edit settings" on the right side of the screen.
