Welcome to a sample OpenIntro course

Hi Everyone,

I'm thrilled with the increased interest in using the OpenIntro text in conjunction with MyOpenMath. I think we are all doing a great service to our students in providing them superior resources without any additional cost burden. A few people have inquired about the ability to have all of the OpenIntro resources (text, videos, homework) centrally located. There are a few options for this:

  1. MyOpenMath has the look and feel of a learning management system. You can post all of the pertinent information and links to your MyOpenMath main page. Students will see all of this information when they log in. This is the method that I'll try to exhibit within this course shell.
  2. MyOpenMath can be integrated with other learning management systems. At SNHU we currently use Blackboard, and there are tutorials for integrating MyOpenMath with Blackboard on YouTube. Using this method may require that you speak with your LMS administrator -- they may need to enable MyOpenMath integration before you can implement it.

Please contact me (e-mail: a.gilbert1@snhu.edu) if you have any questions, comments, or concerns and I'll do my best to address them.

Cheers!

Update (1/27/17) - Updated all problems in the problems library to accept answers from the probability distribution tables as well as answers calculated using software/calculators. For some problems in chapters 5 and 6 (those using the T distribution and Chi-Square distribution) separate versions of the problems were constructed. Look for the [...,T Table,...] and [...,Chi-Sq Table,...] flags in the problem name.

Update (1/25/17) - Added problems 6.49 and 6.50 to the problems library.

Update (12/28/16) - Added new OpenIntro videos to Chapters 2, 3, and 8. Check back for more updates over the coming weeks.

Update (8/16/16) - I'm finally getting around to adding randomized parameters to some of the problems in the pre-loaded homework assignments. A handful from the first three weeks now included random parameters. I've swapped out the static problems in favor of their dynamic counterparts in the preloaded assignments, so if you copy the course template, homework assignments will automatically include these new versions of problems. I will continue swapping out the static problems for their randomized counterparts as I write them. The static problems are still available in the OpenIntro Problems library, just look for the versions without the [...,"RG",...] flag. Also, most problems from the first two weeks (all but 1.14, 1.42, 1.43, 1.44, 1.67, and 1.68) now include links to "hint" videos. This shouldn't require any action on your end -- whether or not the hint videos are available to your students will default to your own assignment settings. I'll continue to embed the hint videos throughout.

Update (7/14/16) - Embedding OpenIntro videos within Chapter 8 block. A few small bug fixes to problems in the library.

Update (12/28/15) - I've made the following changes: i) Added one week of coverage for Chapter 2 on Probability -- as in the text, this is optional, ii) I'm in the process of updating the problems library to include non-essay versions of problems that contain essays -- any questions containing essay parts will be labeled with the "[contains essay]" flag in the problems library, iii) I'll switch out the questions that contain essays for the alternatives that do not in this template, however the problems that contain essay responses will remain available from the problems library.
