Beginning Research - Module Overview

 

By the end of this lesson, participants will be able to

  • Refine a topic for a research paper.
  • Write, or re-write, a clear and focused research question with an appropriate scope.
  • Describe synonyms for key concepts in a research question and identify good search terms for the topic under investigation.
  • Identify and recognize characteristics of scholarly, peer-reviewed articles.
  • Discuss different characteristics of various types of information sources. 

To meet the objectives of this lesson, you will complete the following activities and assessments:

  • Read approximately four Canvas pages of conceptual explanations.
  • Brainstorm using your own research topic for ways to focus it, and for related phrases and synonyms.
  • Watch about three short instructional videos, each three minutes or shorter.
  • Complete an interactive activity examining the structure of a peer-reviewed article.
  • Take a short quiz on the concepts introduced in this module.
