Instructions
First of all, please do not take the final exam until you have received your grade for Writing Project #4: Rhetorical Analysis. The grade and comments you receive on that assignment will help you to do your best here.
Once you open the quiz, you will have four hours to read the editorial and write an essay (in the space provided) in which you respond to each of these components:
PART II: Essay Prompt
Craft a coherent essay (i.e. one that is not just a series of paragraph responses to the prompt) in which you respond to all of the following components:
- Fully introduce the source with an academic meaty sentence, which includes, among other things, the author's major claim;
- provide a brief summary of the author’s argument (including the author’s purpose);
- demonstrate your understanding of the appeals and strategies authors use to make them by identifying, analyzing, and evaluating how the author uses rhetoric to persuade his intended audience;
- discuss the ways in which the author's organization affects his argument as a whole;
- evaluate the extent to which you find the argument convincing.
Keep in mind, this essay is not an “agree or disagree” exercise, nor is it intended to generate an extensive summary of the article. Responses that emphasize personal opinion or summary will not earn a passing score
