Simplifying Complex Syllabus Tables
Microsoft Word Tables
Although Canvas has a built-in Syllabus, providing a downloadable syllabus for your students is a great option too!
Below is an example of a complex syllabus created in Microsoft Word. It has merged cells and multiple rows and columns that could be consolidated. Again, use Canvas' built-in Syllabus if you'd like to provide students with a course overview of all due dates and an accessible version (if correctly formatted).
This syllabus can be broken down into a simpler table, chunked out by weeks with a header to help students easily navigate the information. Notice that the items students need to complete is listed in bullets under the week header as some of the following weeks lack "call-to-action" items.
Tables in Canvas
Simple tables can be created in Canvas on the "overview page" of a module to help students see the activities for the week-at-a-glance. Canvas makes it very easy to create accessible tables.
Canvas' built-in Syllabus automatically generates an accessible table with a "Date" and "Details".
