Greetings, Class!
For this E.C. option, you get to engage with Simon Wiesenthal's powerful book, The Sunflower: On the Possibilities and Limits of Forgiveness. Some of you purchased the book earlier in the semester, so this is your time to make meaningful use of it.
FIRST: Read!
Read the first part of the book in which Simon Wiesenthal tells his story and askes his BIG question, pages 3-98.
SECOND: Think Deeply and Choose!
At the end of the first part of the book, Wiesenthal asks "You who have just read this sad and tragic episode in my life, can mentally change places with me and ask yourself the crucial question, What would I have done?" (98). Consider this question and think deeply about you response and then skim the responses in the pages that follow, 101-247, and choose the one with which you disagree the most.
THIRD: Write!
In no more than 300 words, explain what you would have done in Simon's position and then compare your response to the one with which you disagree, quoting from the author's response at least twice using MLA in-text citation. A Works Cited page is not required.
