Watch this documentary about the early years of R&R, and answer the questions on the first page of the worksheet (the video questions).

Here are some fun things to look out for:

1. The very first thing in the video is a skit from a '50s TV show. There is a boy upstairs listening to "Hound Dog," an R&B hit on his record player. The brother, downstairs, is listening to some "nice" music. They go back and forth until the boy's record player blows up! That boy became a R&R star!

2. Steve Allen had a TV show, and he had lots of R&R performers on it. In this clip, he gets laughs from his audience by simply reading the lyrics of a current hit, like a poem.

3.. Steve Allen had Jerry Lee Lewis on his show. During his piano solo, the wild performer kicked away his piano stool. A few seconds later, you see the stool fly by. Steve Allen, offscreen, had thrown it back!
